FAQ
PRODUCT & FEATURES
1. What is Whisperwool? Whisperwool are acoustic panels made from pure sheep's wool, primarily from Tyrol and elsewhere in Europe. The wool is felted, needled, and bound with a biodegradable binder fiber to create robust acoustic panels. They are used for wall and ceiling mounting and are also incorporated into products such as wall panels, ceiling baffles, and room dividers.
2. What is the acoustic performance of Whisperwool panels? Whisperwool is primarily designed for acoustic absorption and achieves the highest sound absorption class A (αw up to 0.95). This means the panels effectively reduce reverberation and improve speech intelligibility. Depending on the construction, additional sound insulation of up to 36 dB is possible.
3. What are the advantages compared to foam acoustics? Whisperwool is sustainable, biodegradable, and contains no microplastics. The panels are 100% recyclable, contain recycled materials, and are manufactured using zero-waste processes. Sheep's wool also regulates humidity and filters pollutants from the air – properties that foam products do not offer.
4. What fire protection class do Whisperwool panels achieve? Depending on the version, Whisperwool products achieve fire protection class Bs1-d0 according to EN 13501. Sheep's wool is naturally flame-retardant and self-extinguishing, making it a safe material even for public spaces.
5. Where are Whisperwool panels typically used? Typical applications include offices and open-plan offices, restaurants, living spaces, classrooms, conference and seminar rooms, gyms, and libraries. Whisperwool panels are suitable wherever reverberation needs to be reduced and a pleasant indoor climate created.
6. What products are available in the Whisperwool range? The range includes acoustic panels, wall panels, ceiling baffles, suspended panels, standing panels, window panels, table panels, acoustic curtains, acoustic pictures, baffles, suspended ceilings, and acoustic wallpaper. This allows for the acoustic optimization of virtually all areas of a room.
15. Are Whisperwool panels suitable for allergy and asthma sufferers? Yes. A true sheep's wool allergy only occurs with poorly washed wool. Whisperwool uses very carefully cleaned wool, so no allergy is to be expected. What people often perceive as a "wool allergy" is usually a contact reaction, which can also occur with other materials.
DIMENSIONS & ASSEMBLY
7. What are the standard dimensions of Whisperwool panels? The standard panel size is 90 × 90 cm. Larger formats of 180 × 90 cm are also available for commercial applications.
8. How thick are the Whisperwool panels? The standard thickness is 12 mm. Embossed panels are available in thicknesses of 17 to 25 mm and also create a textured, decorative surface.
9. How are Whisperwool panels installed? The panels are attached as wainscoting using fine brad nails and, for added security, are also glued. This combination ensures a permanently secure installation on walls and ceilings.
10. Can I install Whisperwool myself? Yes, Whisperwool can be installed by experienced DIYers. Optimal results are achieved with trained professionals who are familiar with the material.
11. Can the panels be removed or repaired? Yes. Whisperwool panels can be removed and reinstalled elsewhere. Minor repairs to the panel itself are also possible – the material is also largely self-cleaning.
CLEANING & INDOOR CLIMATE
12. How do I clean Whisperwool in everyday use? The wool fibers are constantly in micro-movement due to sound waves and air currents, which means they hardly get dirty and dust has difficulty adhering to them. Wool contains natural lanolin, which wicks dirt away – so the panels are largely self-cleaning. For heavier soiling, they can simply be vacuumed. More stubborn areas can also be easily sprayed with a solution of baking soda and water and then vacuumed.
13. What happens in case of stains or soiling? Coffee stains and similar soiling can be rinsed out. Whisperwool is moisture-resistant and can also be used in damp rooms without being damaged.
14. Does Whisperwool regulate the room climate? Yes. Sheep's wool can absorb up to a third of its own weight in moisture and release it again when the air is dry. This has a balancing effect on the room climate and ensures a pleasant atmosphere.
